Welcome
… to a place that provides specialist help for Eating Disorder Sufferers or for their Carers
A very warm welcome to the Eating Therapy website. This is the first courageous step towards finding the therapeutic and holistic Eating Disorders support, information and care that you need – a step that will hopefully help you to work out what you are really searching for at this particular time in your life.
Why?
“Who in the world am I? Ah, that’s the great puzzle.” (Lewis Carroll)
If you have found yourself on this page, then it is likely to be either because you are having your own personal struggle with eating, with food, with body shape and with weight issues; or because you have come part of the way along the road to managing how you eat and care for yourself, but feel there is still further to go; or because you are deeply concerned about someone you love, as a result of their disturbing difficulties in taking care of themselves nutritionally.
What?
“Too often I was sleepwalking through other people’s lives, eyes turned inward .. My toughest lesson was to renounce my own sense of specialness .. to see instead the specialness of the world around me.” (Sylvia Fraser)
Eating disorders or problems are not really about food, but are more profoundly linked to the relationship you have with yourself and with other people. They are an understandable relief and release, albeit often unconscious, from some sort of emotional overload. Your ability to communicate effectively is being blocked because it is being directed inwardly to your body, rather than outwardly to those around you and to your environment. Visiting this website will give you the opportunity to start to choose an alternative personal journey, one that involves remodelling your silent protest into learning to talk and express yourself more openly. Through a mixture of gentle inner exploration and outer guidance, both working together hand in hand, you can find the strength and knowledge to gradually unravel the different pieces belonging to your own unique eating puzzle, so that new foundations for your hopes and dreams can be discovered.
When?
“So now is the time to disassemble the parts of the jigsaw puzzle or to piece another one together, for I find that, having come to the end of my story, my life is just beginning.” (Conrad Veidt)
You will know when you have had enough of how it is now. Any therapeutic step you take is incredibly positive, and it is also very necessary if you want to learn to appreciate your own eating issues, as well as those of people around you, so that you can discover a way forward that you truly desire for yourself. When you are ready to engage in this process of Eating Disorders support, having somebody to walk and work alongside you collaboratively, will provide you with the safety, the understanding and the reconnection that you need, in order to reach the realisation that you are in fact your own expert.
